Back to Boredom

Sooo... My first two days back after my 6 week Christmas break have finished. And tiring they were too. Only another five days to recover before the next two days. Heehee I know a lot of people would kill for that much time off but I tell you what it's a right pain in the bottom! I am sooo bored and end up with a social networking addiction. I need something to fill my time that involves less time on a computer! .... I already walk a lot and dance around my room like an idiot (with the door shut obviously), so exercise that is free and fun is already being done.... And if I read any more then when I do start assignments then I will never get any work done!

I got my first provisional mark back today - for my seminar presentation. 71% very happy with that as a first seminar as that would be a First grade if I didn't have to take into my assignments which I'm still waiting to hear the marks from. But a very good start and I am more than pleased with myself! ... Okay...Maybe very pleased with myself! Heehee

Also I got my report back from the initial needs assessment. Mair reckons I have Dyspraxia. Although when I scored in the superior and very superior categories for most of the tests I'm still not 100% sure why I needed the assessment. Oh well. At least I know now!

Aled Ashbrook a Diwrnod Santes Dwynwen

As of January 25th 2012 I am Auntie Azzie to my sister's beautiful baby boy. Aled Patrick Ernest Ashbrook was born at 9.45pm on Wednesday 25th January weighing 7lb 9oz! I'm sooo happy and he is such a cutie! Lots of sws a cwtch (kisses and cuddles). So a very tiring but rewarding Dydd Santes Dwynwen for my little sister Rhianwen. I love yoo all loads xxxx

I thought I would put the story of St. Dwynwen up so that you can learnn a little about who she is. Growing up in Wales we were taught about Santes Dwynwen, but many people haven't heard of her. I found this version of the story at: http://www.historic-uk.com/HistoryUK/Wales-History/StDwynwen.htm

St Dwynwen is the Welsh patron saint of lovers, which makes her the Welsh equivalent of St Valentine.

Dwynwen lived during the 5th century and was one of the prettiest of Brychan Brycheiniog's 24 daughters. Dwynwen fell in love with a prince called Maelon Dafodrill, but unfortunately her father had already arranged that she should marry someone else.

Dwynwen was so upset that she could not marry Maelon that she begged God to make her forget him. After falling asleep, Dwynwen was visited by an angel, who appeared carrying a sweet potion designed to erase all memory of Maelon and turn him into a block of ice.

God then gave three wishes to Dwynwen. Her first wish was that Maelon be thawed; her second that God meet the hopes and dreams of true lovers; and third, that she should never marry. All three were fulfilled, and as a mark of her thanks, Dwynwen devoted herself to God's service for the rest of her life.

She founded a convent on Llanddwyn, off the west coast of Anglesey, where a well named after her became a place of pilgrimage after her death in 465AD. Visitors to the well believed that the sacred fish or eels that lived in the well could foretell whether or not their relationship would be happy and whether love and happiness would be theirs. Remains of Dwynwen's church can still be seen today.

The popularity and celebration of St Dwynwen's Day has increased considerably in recent years. In 2003 The Welsh Language Board had bi-lingual English-Welsh cards printed which were distributed by Tesco stores throughout Wales.

Although the title of this blog would suggest it is about my adventures in university , I have decided that actually university will only be part of it.


This blog is not me recording what is actually going on in my life but instead the things that interest me and make me smile. I will post links to things that I have seen or read, photos which make me happy and events I want to put somewhere so I can look back and remember with a smile.
